I work for the Ohio DOT. I am looking for sources of information where recycled concrete (RC) was used as aggregate in new concrete. Have you used recycled aggregate in new concrete? What was the new concrete used for? What problems did you encounter with recycled concrete as an aggregate?
Jason Harrington of the Federal Highway AdministrationÆs Office of Pavement Technology reports that the office is preparing guidelines on the use of RC and is conducting a state-of-practice review. ôWe recognize we do not have a good knowledge base on the uses and performances of RC,ö Harrington says. ôThus the need for the review, which will provide technical information on performance, design needs/considerations, construction needs, material testing/acceptance, and guidelines for RC use.ö For more information about the development of these guidelines, visit www.fhwa.dot.gov/pavement.
