A supplemental, portable batch plant can increase productivity and reduce the cost of providing customers with concrete. Portable plants are typically used in two ways: 1. Dedicate a plant to a single project. 2. Use plant as a backup system to the regular stationary plant. There is a large range of available plants, and the best plant for each producer depends on portability requirements, production capacity needed, types of trucks used to haul the concrete and the materials in the concrete mixture. Transit mix plants batch the separate concrete materials but leave the mixing to be done in the ready mix truck. Central mix plants mix the concrete completely in a stationary chamber then transfer the mixed concrete to a truck for delivery. Getting the highest production capacity and uniformity from a portable batch plant involves attention in several areas of the batching process. These areas include aggregate gradation and handling, sequencing, and weighing operations.
