Plant tours for architectural and engineering students are an important step in reaching the decision makers of the future. Tours for students at Mississippi State University have proven successful for the state association, the producers who participate, and the industry in general. The Mississippi Concrete Industries Association (MCIA) has been giving tours of concrete plants to third-year architectural students at Mississippi State University for about seven years. The tours take place in Jackson, Miss., where the association is headquartered. Students tour three plant facilities, including the architectural precast works of Jackson Stone Co., and the block and ready mix plants of Jackson Ready-Mix. The students look at the facilities so they have an idea of what is involved in the process. The tours are beneficial to both the students, who are gaining valuable experience and knowledge, and the companies, who will be remembered by the students once they are out in the real world buying and specifying products.
