Jim Wagner, a production control trainer and seminar leader, draws on his seminars and Portland Cement Association-sponsored workshops in his first book, The Handbook of Ready-Mixed Concrete Dispatching.

The book's theme is that dispatchers often try too hard to make their customers happy. Left to grow to extremes, this can-do attitude encourages inefficiencies for both producer and contractor. In one insightful section, Wagner illustrates this theme by listing seven common tendencies that indicate that a dispatching department is in trouble.

The book includes proven scheduling techniques, worksheets to help calculate trucking requirements, and other insights into how to establish effective dispatching practices.
