Cemstone has been chosen as a Category B 1st-place winner in the 2015 National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition. The Category B competition, for which Cemstone’s Columbus, Minn. facility received the award, is for those producers with an annual production between 25,001 and 50,000 cubic yards annually at those facilities.
“Because of the Columbus Plant’s proximity to Crossways Lake, it is important to be innovative in how we address environmental issues at the site,” says Alex Olin, Cemstone’s Environmental and Safety Coordinator. “We continually strive to improve our environmental performance not only at the Columbus location, but at all of our locations.”
Through the Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition, the NRMCA’s Operations, Environment, and Safety committee salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. The competition was judged on 11 separate criteria that demonstrated the company’s commitment to the environment through innovative management.
