Concrete Construction and The Concrete Producer presented the Most Influential People of 2013 on Tuesday afternoon at the World of Concrete. These seven individuals and one company represent the progress that we continue to make in the concrete industry. CC editor Bill Palmer introduced Anne Ellis, current ACI President; Bill Klorman, Klorman Concrete; Bill Phelan, Euclid Chemical; Bruce Suprenant, American Society of Concrete Contractors; and Bob Weatherton, The Concrete Pump Store. (see page 46 for more on each of these people). Palmer described why each was chosen—what they had accomplished that advanced the industry and improved contractors’ lives.

Rick Yelton, TCP editor, introduced the most influential chosen this year by The Concrete Producer. This included David Biggs, Biggs Consulting Engineering, for his work on BIM for masonry; Central Concrete, represented by Mike Donovan and Jeff Davis, for developing an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for ready-mixed concrete; and Jason Weiss, Purdue University, for his research on lightweight aggregate for internal curing of concrete.

At a special presentation that followed, Concrete Construction and the American Concrete Pavement Association, recognized Bob Weatherton’s contributions to the concrete pumping industry and to the World of Concrete. Big Bob helped to start the WOC in 1975 and has been to every show since. There might never have been a World of Concrete without him, let alone a 40-year anniversary.
