CLEVELAND, OH - BASF named Juan Alfonso Garcia as Vice President of the admixture systems business of Construction Chemicals in North America. In his new position, Garcia will be located in Beachwood, Ohio. He will succeed Gabriel Cottrell, who will retire effective March 31, 2013, after 35 years with the company.

Garcia will be responsible for leading the admixture systems business operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. A veteran of the construction industry, Garcia began his career with BASF’s Construction Chemicals business as a sales trainee in Mexico City in 1990. During his 23 year career, he has held several sales and management positions throughout the Latin American region, and most recently served as Vice President of Market Management for Construction Chemicals in Europe based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Garcia has a bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico.

Cottrell began his career in 1978 as a sales representative in the Caribbean and worked in almost every region of the world before taking responsibility for the North American Admixture Systems business in 2007.
