If you're into techno, semi-geeky items, plan to spend some time at World of Concrete, Jan. 23–26, in the Technology for Construction (TFC) area of the South Hall. For those of us who love screens, keyboards, and everything in between, the 12000 and 13000 aisles hold a magnet-like attraction.
And because high-tech seems to be integrated into almost everything, this cluster of exhibitors covers a wide array of needs this year, including special-purpose hardware and software, and everything from turnkey installations to service center operations.
You can plan an advance itinerary for wandering the TFC aisles by visiting www.worldofconcrete.com. But if you find yourself running out of time, perhaps I can help. Here are a few exhibitors—including some old friends and others who are brand new this year —whose offerings have already caught my eye. Like my grocery shopping list, they're listed here in roughly aisle order. Booth numbers were correct at time of publication.
Sub-Hub (booth #S12739) delivers project bid notifications to sub-contractors and suppliers nationwide via e-mail or fax. This national online system matches project requirements with the profiles of sub-contractors and suppliers, and sends out project notifications via e-mail and/or fax. Sub-contractors sign up to be listed in a national database and fill out a simple profile describing what they do, how much they do, and where they work. They also receive access to simple web-based management tools. Public agencies and other project providers can send their projects to Sub-Hub's national online planroom via participating reprographers or through a simple upload tool.
Trakit GPS (#12755) provides a cost-effective, feature-rich solution for vehicle tracking. It offers seamless interface into third-party dispatch software and accounting systems, and system installation takes less than a day.
Latista Technologies (#S12945) will show its software platform, Latista:Field, which optimizes every aspect of field operations, improving performance and effectiveness of mobile workers. This Tablet PC-based solution (local client) for field-related personnel synchronizes with an HQ server web-based solution for office personnel, and dynamically generates work orders to be sent via fax and e-mail (and optional vendor portal) in English-Spanish to subcontractors. The company distributes its product on Xplore Technologies' Tablet PCs.
The Blue Book of Building and Construction (#S12948) has been providing construction industry information since 1913. Its regional construction directories are published in most major markets throughout the United States. Online, thebluebook.com provides easy access to continually updated information for each of its regional editions. What I really want to learn more about is the new automated e-mail notification that goes along with BB-Bid, The Blue Book's online bid management system.
MultiREBAR CAD (#S12957) says it makes rebar detailing easy. Its AutoCAD solutions for detailing REBAR drawings generate automatic bar lists and export to production. The company says its MultiREBAR CAD is the only rebar detailing software powered by the Auto-CAD 2007 OEM technology.
Fleet One (#S13251) provides fuel cards and fleet management solutions to businesses with company vehicles. An affiliate of SunTrust Banks Inc., the company offers fuel and maintenance purchasing controls, detailed reporting, online account management, and a host of additional services that save money.
Admet (#S13344) manufactures a full line of digital indicators for capturing and analyzing concrete strength data as well as electromechanical and hydraulic load frames for tension and compression testing. The company also manufactures Concrete-Traker database software for handling the daily activities of a concrete testing laboratory.
