Green technology developer CarbonCure Technologies Inc. boosts its growing team with two key hires. Dr. Paul Sandberg, a global leader in cement chemistry, will be joining the technical team as vice president of materials science. Don Gordon, formerly CEO of concrete producer Atlas Block, will be joining the team as director of sales.

Dr. Paul Sandberg is a world-renowned expert with more than 25 years experience in cement chemistry and chemical admixture technology. He was formerly principal scientist and technical director of key accounts at W. R. Grace, one of the world’s largest suppliers of catalysts, engineered materials, specialty construction chemicals and building materials. Dr. Sandberg, who is involved in several startups in the cement and concrete industry, will be taking on the role of vice president of materials science to lead the firm’s chemical admixture research and development program.

Don Gordon is a well-respected concrete industry pioneer who brings 30 years of manufacturing experience to the CarbonCure team. A recipient of numerous industry and sustainability awards for bringing the concept of sustainability to the concrete sector, including the 2014 Clean 16 award, Mr. Gordon was formerly the CEO of Atlas Block, an Ontario-based concrete products manufacturer that was recently acquired by Brampton Brick. As director of sales, Mr. Gordon will use his vast industry experience to establish partnerships with concrete manufacturers to bring green concrete to markets across North America.

The addition of the new hires comes at a time of significant momentum for the company, which closed a $3.5 million Series B round of venture capital funding last week.

Over the past year, CarbonCure has expanded its team with nine new hires. CarbonCure will continue to attract top talent in 2014 as it seeks to fill additional technical, marketing and sales positions.

The green concrete technology is currently available for concrete blocks, pavers and segmental retaining walls, and the firm will expand to the precast and ready mixed concrete markets in 2014.
