For the third year, World of Concrete presented the Legacy Award, the show’s greatest recognition. This year’s recipient was Ward Malisch, who has been involved with WOC for more than three decades. His passion for providing practical, technical, and current education for contractors became a cornerstone of WOC’s mission.

Malisch has used his extensive experience in the concrete industry to help WOC create its unique attendee experiences, including seminars, outdoor demos, and attendee forums.

After a stint as a college professor and a contractor, Malisch joined the WOC seminar staff in the 1980s. Along with these duties, Malisch became editor-in-chief of Concrete Construction.

He also has supported WOC while working for several cosponsors, including the American Concrete Institute, the Portland Cement Association, and currently the American Society of Concrete Contractors on technical concerns.

World of Concrete plans to continue Malisch’s support of contractors and producers so they can become more productive, safer, and efficient while building with the world’s best construction material.

The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) recognized Malisch for a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. The Lifetime Achievement Award is ASCC’s highest honor, acknowledging recipients for their body of work within the industry and their service to ASCC. And Concrete Construction named Malisch as one of 2009’s Most Influential People in concrete.
