ASTM International has released a new standard that, "will support the sustainability and resiliency of concrete pipes that are reinforced by synthetic fibers.” This new standard will allow for the storm water drainage to flow away from possible flooding. Plus, these pipes will be used to transport residential and commercial wastewater to plants for treatment and release.
Synthetic fibers are more reliable as they have time-dependent properties, unlike steel reinforcement. The synthetic fibers require more testing by fiber manufactures beyond that of steel reinforced concrete pipes.
