Knowing how to approach change orders is key to keep your bottom line up ... whether it is driven by the client, or because you found something during production. According to research, as much as 90 percent of construction disputes involve change orders. Recently Remodelers Advantage Inc., an international resource, offered this video featuring three simple tips to help you avoid becoming part of that statistic. One key place to start: Get everything in writing.

"Be sure that all changes are described in writing and signed by the client. Even a change order with no cost attached ... should be recorded in writing, so you can avoid tough discussions and misunderstandings later," says Victoria Downing, host of the Power Tips TV video and Remodelers Advantage president and chief inspiration officer.
