A visit to Wayne Mason's Gainesville, Fla., office at Florida Rock Industries reveals a collection of more than 300 toy and model ready mix trucks. The collection started in 1972, with the purchase of a Snapfit "cement" mixer model from Lindberg's Build-and-Collect series, and has been growing ever since. Mason has been in the cement industry and then the concrete products industry since 1961, and started his collection as a hobby that represents the business he makes his livelihood from. His collection includes such interesting toys as a working 1926 Buddy L stationary mixer that runs on a kerosene engine, a late 1920's Bulldog Mack replica, an ERTL 1950 stub-nose with a 2-cubic-yard Ransome mixer mounted on it--a replica of Mason's own restored 1948 mixer of the same type, and hundreds more.
