A graduate of the CIM program at Middle Tennessee State University, my son has begun studies for an MBA in finance and business development. Like some many 30-something concrete professionals, he’s just noticing the opportunities our industry is about to provide. He’s enrolled at a well-respected school in Chicago.

Fortunately my son is working for an employer that encourages their middle management folks to continue their education.  The firm knows that growth can only come by investing in their most  important resource – their people.

I’m hoping that as the economy improves, other producers can adopt a similar success strategy. It’s probably time to think about strategic growth.

Do you know someone who wants to aspire to a better position within your company? Have you thought how you’re going to fill the age gap in your management ranks? And just importantly are you prepared to invest in your company’s efforts to become better, faster?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, I strongly urge you to consider sponsoring the efforts of the Concrete Industry Management’s MBA program. It’s a unique opportunity for our industry professionals to better themselves in an environment that supports our industry. The program isn’t looking for donations, they are looking for students.

The enrollment period is now open for the CIM MBA’s second cohort.  And they need to help fill some open seats.

You can help in two ways. First, budget funds for education. Second , encourage any of your professionals who have asked to enroll in a masters program to take a look at the concrete industry’s only dedicated MBA program.

By sending students to this program you help our industry in three ways. First we are educating our own professionals by providing pertinent industry-related case studies. Second, we are creating an educational resource of business faculty who are bringing new ideas to our industry. And third, these graduates are immediately helping their organizations to improve.

Already educated in the CIM way of business, my son and I discussed whether the CIM MBA was best for him. He convinced me that the different path would round out his resume. I reluctantly agreed.

But I made him make me a promise. If he would have any thoughts of a going for a doctorate degree, it will be a PHD in CIM.
