This one of a kind jobsite tour will be held the Sunday and Friday of World of Concrete Week

Concrete's past and future will be highlighted at the 2nd Annual World of Concrete Editorial Tour. This year's tour returns to the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. Last year, our tour group saw the approaches being built for a new 2000-foot, four-lane bridge over the Colorado River that will link Nevada and Arizona. This is just 2/3 mile downstream from Hoover Dam.

On this year's visit, we will receive an update on this important project from Obayashi Corp., the general contractor. Representatives from the tour's sponsor, Sika Corp., will talk about the concrete admixtures used in the project.

In addition to the project tour, we will visit the Hoover Dam Visitor Center for a guided tour of the power plant and to learn more about Hoover Dam's construction 75 years ago. Editorial staff and magazine contributors, such as concrete historian Luke Snell, will provide a special overview of Hoover Dam and its history.

Attendees have a choice of two days—noon to 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, and 1 to 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26. Friday's tour will have an international feel, as staff from the Instituto del Cemento y Concreto (IMCYC) will provide Spanish translation of the presentations. All who attend the tours will receive a box lunch and a World of Concrete gift.

Buses will leave from and return to Central Hall Door 9 of the Las Vegas Convention Center on both days.

To commemorate and celebrate the spirit of World of Concrete, Hanley Wood has created a unique concrete equipment toy collectable series. It began last year with an R-model tandem model mixer. This year, the series continues with the first model of a concrete form truck.

The model is an exact 1/3 4 scale model of the truck used by many concrete contractors. Crafted by First Gear, the collectible's dimensions are 13 ½ x 4 ¾ inches and, it weighs two pounds.

This replica features a hoisting boom that swivels and extends, outriggers that extend and move down, and concrete forms stored in the truck rack. The chassis features an engine compartment with opening hood showing the detailed engine, underframe, and drivetrain.
