Laying out a concrete pipe plant is a difficult task, requiring consideration of many factors ranging from the type of pipe to be made, the proper machines, to the placement of the plantÕs work areas. Two major types of pipe-manufacturing processes are used in North America: packerhead and dry-cast vibration.
Before anything else, a producer needs to research and know both the market he will serve and the pipe he will produce. He should know what classifications, dimensions and quantity of pipe his market currently demands and make projections about future demand.
The layout of the work area is just as important as market considerations. The batching system, pipe machines, cage fabrication, and curing areas should all be decided upon and placed with much thought.
