A new single-slope concrete median barrier (CMB) has been developed that can be used in both temporary and permanent applications. The barrier was discussed in the Transportation Research Record 1302. Although the use of the New Jersey CMB has been successful, there are disadvantages associated with its use. The new barrier face has a single, constant slope that is not affected by overlaying the adjacent pavement, which was one of the problems associated with the New Jersey CMB. The new barrier was designed to redirect a 4,500-pound automobile traveling at 60 mph with an impact angle of 25o allowing only cosmetic damage when deployed in the permanent configuration.
