Company has been in business since 1970. Doan became a Redi-Mix producer in 1988 when it acquired redi-mix operations in Ann Arbor, Mich. Doan has nine plants in the Detroit area. Ready mix accounts for 80% of business; aggregates, trucking and precast make up the rest. Like the rest of the industry, Shelby Materials expects 2009 to be another down year, after a disappointing 2008. Shelby has been a family-owned company for more than 50 years, starting in 1946 as the Cave Stone Co. in Norristown, Ind. Has 10 ready-mix plants and eight locations around Central and South Central Indiana. Texas Construction magazine ranked Speed Fab-Crete one of the top builders in Texas. The producer manufactures precast concrete wall panels, highway retaining walls and highway bridges. Its plant is considered the oldest, continually operating precast concrete manufacturer in the Southwest. Was also ranked one of Dallas' 100 fastest-growing private companies in 2009. This is the sister company of Nitterhouse Masonry Products, which produces interlocking pavers, architectural block, brick, and retaining walls.
