Desert Rose High School students working with Skills USA.
New for 2013 is Let’s Build With Concrete for Habitat, sponsored by JoeCrete (Booth O40933). The last 2 years, attendees have participated in a hands-on tool demonstration constructing concrete tabletops. After the event, these items were donated to the Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas ReStore. This year, items from the demonstration will again be donated after fabrication with the help of instructors and students involved in Skills USA.
The event is being led by decorative concrete installer and educator Mike Archambault of Paris, France. He spent the first phase of his career in Houston, Texas, where he owned Patterned Concrete of Houston and Patterned Concrete Industries and served as an active board and committee member for the American Society of Concrete Contractors (Booth C4511). Archambault will be demonstrating a metallic microtopping— the only one of its kind in the world— to create a countertop.
The excitement doesn’t stop there! Also at Let’s Build, you can observe demonstrations of polishing, airbrushing techniques, staining, and sawcutting. Slabs will be cut into 2x2 foot tiles that will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. Ben Ashby will demonstrate glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC). He hopes to make as many 2x2 foot tiles as possible.
Be sure to come by the Concrete Surfaces Decorative Pavilion, Tuesday–Friday, during show hours, and check out the setup, demonstrations of the decorative concrete items being made, and a viewing of the completed items before they are shipped to ReStore.
This is definitely a feel-good event you don’t want to miss!
