A December 1996 project at New Smyrna Beach Airport in Florida provides key research used by the American Concrete Pavement Association, among other groups, in pursuit of the airport market. A major breakthrough would be the Federal Aviation Administration's incorporating ultra-thin whitetopping into its design specification. To that end, ACPA is compiling results from the lab, New Smyrna Beach and the first such project, at St. Louis' Spirit of St. Louis Airport, for an airport design engineering bulletin. Research has shown the advantages of UTW.
