After Rinker Materials of Florida was acquired in July 1988 by CSR Ltd., an Australian construction supplier, it grew quickly by acquiring smaller, well-established, privately owned companies. Rinker now has more than 100 operations. This conglomeration is broken down into small strategic business units--districts and zones--that serve their local markets. Each Rinker district is subdivided into "mother" and "satellite" plants, which are located close together to serve a geographical area within the district. Management, accounting, and dispatching are based at the mother plants.
