Precast producers sometimes wind up with the responsibility for erecting the units they supply. To erect the units safely and properly, you need a trained crew and the right equipment. Cranes can be either purchased or rented. The price depends on the size of the crane, so it is important to carefully choose the right crane for the job.
When choosing a crane type, consider the sequencing of the erection process, safety, the speed of erection and cost of the crane. Mobile cranes are most often chosen for precast erection jobs because of their ability to move around the jobsite.
Two different configurations of mobile cranes exist: lattice-boom cranes, and telescopic cantilevered-boom cranes. Lattice-boom cranes have a higher load capacity than telescoping hydraulic cranes, while the telescoping crane can change length with more ease than the lattice-boom.
