Unprotected portland-cement-based concrete performs poorly in the acid environment found in sewers and many industrial facilities. A silicate binder system instead of portland cement, however, produces manufactured concrete that resists not only most acids, but also salts, sulfates, strong alkalis and solvents. Riefler Concrete Products, Hamburg, N.Y., is the first precast producer licensed to manufacture ZeoTech Concrete manholes, septic tanks, boxes, sumps and similar products, but other producers are expected to follow. Included is a table of physical properties and a description of a reinforced concrete chemical waste sump, one of the first ZeoTech products. KEYWORDS: ZeoTech, acid
