Fred W. Heldenfels IV knows a thing or two about history. The chairman of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute recites names and years from his own family’s history without missing a beat. It’s a rich history that dates back to the Civil War (1864 to be exact), when his great-great-grandfather, Hugo Heldenfels arrived in the United States and started a lumberyard. It’s appropriate Heldenfels has served as PCI’s chairman during the association’s golden anniversary year.
