Increased structural efficiency has led to longer, more slender concrete bulb-T beams and I-girders, attaining lengths up to 130 to 140 feet. To transport these long girders, producers often are turning to steerable trailers. Factors that should be taken into consideration when transporting longer beams are: lateral stresses placed on beams during shipping; proper loading of beams and placement of support points; route planning and highway load regulations; and operation of trailers.
