Cooperation between the concrete industry and government regulatory agencies is nothing new. What's new is the development of these partnerships in areas not traditionally dealt with by the concrete industry. In the early 1990s, a new stormwater permit process was going to have a major impact on the ready-mix industry. The New Jersey Concrete and Aggregate Association worked with the New Jersey Department of Enviromental Protection to shape how the new stormwater pemit regulations would affect the industry. A group monitoring approach is now being taken. Now only 20% of the producers need to monitor their stormwater, with their results being considered representative of the entire group.
