A well-planned preventive maintenance (PM) program will help keep a ready mix truck in good working order while still making a profit. A PM program means that mechanics will look for problems on a regular basis, creating less downtime when a repair is needed. Vehicle safety is the number one priority for a PM program. Ensure that all mechanics are well-versed in lockout/tagout procedures. Brakes are also a top priority fo ready mix trucks because the trucks deal with rough terrain on a routine basis. A spare truck can help with vehicle maintenance by subsituting for trucks that are out of service. Paperwork can aid in preventive maintenance by keeping track of historical data such as when repairs took place and what items were replaced. Assigning drivers to specific trucks will also aid in maintenance because a driver gains a feel for the truck and can tell when something is wrong.
