Producers across the country are reducing construction's carbon footprint. They are becoming educated about products that can make their operations more environmentally friendly, and are making responsible buying decisions. Producers pass this knowledge on to customers, in part by providing contractors with products for sustainable projects. Following are several products that can help producers and contractors go green.

Eco-friendly pumps

The S 55 SX concrete pump reaches 180 ft. and sets up with a 29-ft. 2-in. front outrigger spread to maximize its boom reach. It features a 180-degree folding main section and 270-degree Z fold tip for challenging placements. Concrete pumps with placing booms save time for operators and save energy. The line of pumps including the S 55 SX is fuel-efficient and uses less water. Schwing. 888-724-9464.

Keep water out

Control water absorption in above- and belowgrade concrete construction with W500 waterproofing admixture. The environmentally responsible, Cradle to Cradle-certified product reduces water absorption and forms a protective coating around steel reinforcement to reduce corrosion. Applications include water treatment plants and containment structures, underground vaults, walls, slabs, infrastructure projects, and swimming pools. Hycrete Inc. 201-386-8110.

Pollution-fighting cement

TX Active photocatalytic cement provides self-cleaning and pollution-reducing options for concrete structures. TX Arca reduces maintenance by destroying pollutants that discolor the surface. TX Aria controls pollution by destroying airborne pollutants, resulting in concrete that contributes to cleaner air quality. Applications include structural concrete, architectural precast, concrete blocks, retaining walls, and paving. Essroc Italcementi Group. 610-837-6725.

Process water management

The Model 5000S pH Control and Monitoring System uses CO2 to neutralize high pH process water at ready-mix plants. The system controls and monitors pH levels, and lowers suspended solids of water in pits, settling basins, and lagoons. After the pH is lowered to 7.5, the suspended solids meet most requirements for releasing the water, even without filtering. Treated water can be recycled to batch concrete, irrigate rock, and rinse trucks. Fortrans Inc. 866-958-7267.

Pervious concrete tools

The Lightning Strike screed system and its pervious concrete finishing tools meet the unique needs of permeable pavement jobs. Riser wheels attach to both ends of the screed to elevate the system 1/8 in. above the pour. Add riser wheel rings for 3/8 or 5/8 in. elevation to adjust screed height per contractor specifications. Attach an adjustable curb runner where pervious is placed next to a curb for a 0 to 12 in. elevation. Lura Enterprises Inc. 701-281-8989.

Redirect groundwater

Control damaging moisture and reduce hydrostatic pressure through cracks and gaps in belowgrade structures with Delta-Drain. Its indestructible core is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene. The core contains up to 60% recycled material encapsulated in two layers of virgin plastic, making it recyclable and sustainable. Cosella Dorken. 888-433-5824.

Recycled fiber

Create more eco-friendly concrete slabs with Green-Net synthetic fiber, made from 100% recycled polypropylene. The heavy-duty fiber can reduce plastic and hardened concrete shrinkage and settlement cracking, improve impact strength, and increase fatigue resistance and toughness. Green-Net is durable and offers secondary/temperature control with a fibrillated pattern and long length option. Forta Corp. 800-245-0306.
