The U.S. Building Council reports sustainable construction employs more than 2 million Americans and generates more than $100 billion in gross domestic product and wages. This trend will continue, supporting 7.9 million jobs and contributing $554 billion to the economy over the next four years, at least according to the building council.
At the second annual GREENSITE Luncheon and Forum, producers, contractors, and architects will learn how to participate. It's a chance to hear from experienced sustainable building professionals who have surpassed the challenges of sustainable concrete construction.
The event, hosted by the editors of TCP, CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION, and MASONRY CONSTRUCTION magazines, takes place at World of Concrete in Las Vegas, noon to 2 p.m, Thursday, Feb. 4. Topics will include: trends in sustainable design, carbon footprint, life cycle, and cradle-to-cradle design; new developments in contractor certification; best approaches to earning LEED credit; and real-life examples of how to succeed by going green.
Contractors and architects will discuss working with concrete on sustainable projects. They will give advice about the practical side of using concrete in innovative new ways.
Contractors and producers can mingle and share personal experiences with other sustainable building professionals. The GREENSITE Luncheon and Forum, sponsored by Holcim, is the industry's only event that focuses specifically on the role of contractors and producers in sustainable construction.GREENSITE Pavilion
Throughout the show, the GREENSITE Pavilion will be a hub for sustainable products and solutions. In its new location near Registration in the Central Hall, it will feature exhibitor booths and a full schedule of presentations.
Speakers will include representatives from the industry's Joint Sustainability Initiative (JSI). Under the JSI, organizations have agreed to align their resources and activities for sustainable development. These include PCA, NRMCA, ACI, Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, National Concrete Masonry Association, and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.
This is the group's first public event to promote its collaborative effort. During the show, it will offer expertise on topics ranging from practical tips for saving time and money on LEED projects, to sustainable solutions with permeable pavers, and precast opportunities in green building.
