Construction was the first industry to fall into recession and the last to emerge from it. The industry finally seems to be recovering, but there are still plenty of risks that could cut short the revival.

Tue, 18 Jun 2013 11:02:11 EST

Despite heavy promotion for many years, producers and contractors are relatively unfamiliar with roller-compacted concrete. And those that have RCC construction experience have little paving history. To fill in this learning gap, The Concrete Producer and Concrete Construction magazines co-presented RCC Live! at the 2013 World of Concrete.

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 12:51:11 EST

Ontario-based precaster Utility Structures Inc. started the new year in a big way, thanks to a brand new 100-cubic-foot aggregate storage bin that was custom designed by BMH Systems and installed through the plant’s roof. Plant managers discuss the pros and cons of retrofitting, and what precast producers should know when considering major modifications.

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 11:46:30 EST

On a beautiful May afternoon in Chicago, BASF product manager Joe Daczko had the full attention of 85 concrete aficionados as he compared placing self-consolidating concrete (SCC) to serving an adult beverage. “You’re not pouring a glass of beer,” said Daczko, as the group watched the fluid concrete fill a U-shaped plexiglass form. “SCC is not a cure-all. You still have to pour it correctly according to the form dimensions and mix characteristics, if you want to prevent bugholes.”

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 12:49:07 EST
